What Paint Correction Actually Fixes.
Detailing cleans the surface. Correction reshapes it. A machine polisher and an abrasive compound remove a few microns of clear coat so the surface sits flat again — which is why light reflects cleanly off it instead of scattering into that spiderweb you see in direct sun.
That distinction matters because the common Arizona paint problems are all subtractive damage. Material has been taken out of the clear coat, and no wash, wax or spray puts it back.
Swirl marks and wash marring. Tunnel washes drag grit from the vehicle ahead of yours across your paint. Every pass lays down thousands of fine scratches.
Hard water and sprinkler etching. Minerals dry on a 140°F panel and bond into the clear coat. What starts as a spot you could wipe off becomes a crater you can feel with a fingernail.
UV oxidation and chalking. Clear coat contains a finite budget of UV inhibitors. Under 300 sunny days a year that budget runs out, the resin degrades, and the paint goes dull then chalky.

What it does not fix. Scratches deep enough to catch a fingernail. Anything through to primer or bare metal. Rock chips and dents. And critically — clear coat that has already begun to fail and peel. Polishing failing clear coat removes what little is left and accelerates the peeling. We inspect under lights and will tell you plainly if a panel needs paint rather than polish, even if that means losing the job.
The fingernail test. Run a nail lightly across the defect. If it catches, correction will improve the appearance but not remove it. If it glides over, correction takes it out completely. Send a photo when you book and we will give you an honest read before scheduling.

Most customers who need correction end up taking a ceramic coating instead, because both packages already bundle an enhancement service — and bare corrected clear coat starts oxidising again immediately under Arizona sun.

The only way to know whether a vehicle needs more correction is to wash it and inspect the paint. We may recommend additional paint correction at that point — it is entirely your decision and is not required to maintain any guarantee. Half a day to a full day. The inspection matters more than the polishing.
Inspect Under Lights
Every panel checked under corrected lighting to judge defect depth and how much clear coat is left. This is where we say 1-stage, 2-stage, or honestly — not correctable.
Decontaminate
Wash, iron and fallout remover, clay bar. Compounding over embedded contamination drags grit across the paint and creates fresh damage.
Machine Correction
Compound pass, then a refining polish. The 2-stage exists because a single pass lifts gloss without removing deeper craters.
Protect Immediately
Corrected clear coat is bare. We finish with sealant at minimum. Leaving it unprotected in Arizona means the damage restarts within weeks.

There is no travel fee anywhere in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Scottsdale, Apache Junction or Phoenix. Which stage your vehicle needs is decided under lights on the day rather than over the phone, because defect depth cannot be judged from a photo alone.
A 1-stage correction is a single machine pass with a polish that removes light swirls, haze and surface-level water spotting. A 2-stage adds a cutting compound pass before the refining polish, removing measurably more clear coat to level deeper mineral etching, oxidation and heavy wash swirling. Most Arizona vehicles that have spent a summer parked outside need the 2-stage. Newer or garage-kept paint usually does not.
If they have etched into the clear coat, yes — that is exactly what correction is for. If the minerals are still sitting on the surface, a clay bar decontamination in the $349 Presidential Exterior Detail lifts them for far less money. Run a fingernail over a spot: if you feel an edge, it is etched and needs correction. We check this during the inspection and will point you to the cheaper service if that is what your vehicle actually needs.
Clear coat is finite. Factory clear coat runs roughly 40 to 50 microns and a 2-stage correction removes somewhere around 3 to 8 microns depending on how aggressive the paint requires. Most vehicles can take several corrections over their lifetime, but not unlimited ones. That is why we push customers toward protecting corrected paint immediately — correcting the same damage every two years burns through clear coat that cannot be replaced.
If you want protection anyway, the coating is better value. Both ceramic packages include a One Step Paint Enhancement Service achieving up to 60% correction, so you get entry-level correction bundled with three to seven years of protection. Standalone correction makes sense when the paint needs restoring now and you will decide on protection later, when the defects go beyond what an enhancement lifts, or when you are preparing a vehicle for sale.
Yes, and that is how most appointments run. Correction does not need a controlled environment the way a coating cure does — it needs shade and a panel that is not scorching. We work off the van's canopy and start early, usually 8 AM, to stay ahead of the heat. A free garage bay makes the lighting easier but is not a requirement.
