Straight answers, including the ones that cost us the sale. What a coating does, what it does not, and when you should not buy one.
A ceramic coating is a liquid silica polymer that bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, hydrophobic layer. It is not a wax and not a sealant. Wax sits on the paint and lasts weeks. A sealant bonds loosely and lasts months. A coating becomes a semi-permanent sacrificial layer measured in years — three to five for an entry package, five to seven for a premium one. In Arizona its main jobs are absorbing UV and shedding hard water before it can etch.
The chemistry matters less than the behaviour. A coating does three things a wax cannot:
This is the section most guides skip.
A coating is only as good as the surface underneath it. Ours include a triple decontamination wash and a One Step Paint Enhancement Service achieving up to 60% correction. If the inspection shows defects deeper than the enhancement lifts, we quote additional correction separately — it is your call, and declining does not affect any guarantee. What we will not do is coat over damage without telling you.
Coating pricing across the Valley runs from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, and the spread is almost entirely about prep hours rather than the bottle.
Both are sedan pricing with SUV, truck and van adders quoted after inspection. Both include the same enhancement service — the step up buys duration plus the glass and wheel coverage, not more correction.
Worth it: you are keeping the vehicle three or more years; it parks outside or under a carport; the paint is currently in decent shape; you are tired of water spots.
Not worth it: you are selling within a year — a $349 Presidential Exterior Detail with its 8-month sealant presents just as well for less. The clear coat is already failing. Or the vehicle genuinely lives in a garage and rarely goes out.
Wash every two weeks with pH-neutral soap, two buckets, in shade. No tunnel washes. Rinse after monsoon rain and after sprinkler exposure. That is the entire maintenance regime.
